War Diary, 2nd/4th South Lancashire Regiment War Diary
War Dairies are documents that were kept by military units to provide a record of events and activities. Their files also frequently contain other documents such as copies of orders and defence plans. There can be a great deal of variation in the amount of detail recorded, ranging from detailed day to day entries through to a brief summary of events at the end of each month. In this case we are fortunate in that during their time in Walberswick the 2nd/4th South Lancashire Regiment kept a good record of their activities and their diary provides a great deal of information about their role in coastal defence (TNA WO 166/4680).
